Winter Tourism in the State of New York
As an avid tourist, I really enjoy traveling in winter. Here are my favorite places for winter tourism in the State of New York
Letchworth State Park
Letchworth State Park, known as the Grand Canyon of the East, offers a wealth of outdoor activities to warm up in the winter. While we sometimes grumble and moan about the snow, those of us who live in upstate New York know that it is a fabulous place to live and play in winter, and we have found some pretty amazing places to visit. If you are here for a week or two this winter, you can find some of these wonderful places for skiing and snowboarding, as well as hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing.
Letchworth State Park is considered one of the best national parks in the country and is perfect for year-round nature exploration. The park is located about an hour south of Rochester and features a variety of hiking trails, snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling. It also offers excellent terrain for snow tubes and you can stay at the main entrance of the park for up to three days if you stay behind the main entrances.
Of course, Lake Placid and its Olympic Museum, where winter sports are performed, are not to be missed. There is really a no better place in the state of New York for winter skiing and snowmobiling than the Olympic Winter Park.
Olympic sports that might be too fast or too demanding, grab a pair of skis, go cross-country skiing, or try snowshoeing or hiking. Perhaps it is even more fun to ski on the same slopes as the luge and bobsleigh of the Olympians.
While we sometimes grumble and whine about the snow, those of us who live in upstate New York know that it is a fabulous place to live and play in winter. We visited for a week or two this winter and found some pretty amazing places to visit. Sledding is always fun, but tobogganing in Lake Placid has something special, and enthusiasts can look forward to a challenging course at Whiteface Mountain. The LakePlacid area is the perfect activity, with a wide variety of different types of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
The mountains are covered in snow, but that doesn’t stop Lake Placid from offering a great winter vacation. If you just want to spend a relaxing weekend in LakePlacid, you can go skiing, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in winter.
Niagara Falls is beautiful in winter, and here are some photos we took of Niagara Falls and the Niagara River from our visit to the falls.
Niagara Falls State Park is breathtaking in winter and considering that you can walk to the top of the observation tower and enjoy the light show and views from there, you can keep it hidden in the woods. During a half-day in the park, you can enjoy Niagara County regional wines, including New York State Ice Wine, as well as light shows and views from the observation tower.
I really love those places! They are amazing all year long. Still, they have a certain charm in winter. So, I really love them as places for Winter Tourism!
